Hey y’all!
I am writing a book of essays called My Beloved Imaginals: Personal Stories by a Magical Realist consisting of my own personal essays that weave back and forth across the liminal in ways that will hopefully offer contemplation upon the reader’s own life and story.
When I say that I am a magical realist I mean that when, in my youth and young adulthood, I would read books my Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Isabel Allende, Alice Hoffman, and Carlos Ruiz Zafon, I would juxtapose their their plots, themes, settings and characters to stories and happening in my own real life. I often assumed that everyone lived mystical layered regular lives and the more I would tell my own life stories the clearer it became that most people don’t see the magic in their real mundane lives in quite the way I do.
People tell me constantly that I should write a book about these stories and so I have decided to share them here on my substack with you, my soul kin, and if a book wants to be compiled then may the magic of reality make it so. If not, then I can just enjoy sharing the stories and you can enjoy reading them! That is the whole reason for telling stories to begin with, isn’t it? And maybe it will be an inspiration to find the magic in your reality. We all have it sprinkled about everywhere if we just open ourselves up to what is sparkling in the cracks waiting to be rediscovered.
Cheers!
Sonia
